Welcome To First Grade
I am thrilled to have the privilege of teaching your child this school year. I hope the following information will be helpful. My goal for the year is to not only educate your child academically, but to also teach them spiritually and morally. We will work on learning responsibility and making good choices.
Grading
Your child will receive a letter grade in all subject areas and special classes, including Music and P.E.. Your child's completed papers will sent home daily in their blue take home folder. His/Her grades can also be monitored through your Renweb account.
Grading Scale
100-94 E
93-85 G
84-76 S
75-70 N
69-below U
Assignments
There will be ample time to complete all work in class. If a child doesn't complete an assignment, it will be sent home to complete as homework.
Discipline
The classroom rules are:
1. Follow directions the first time given.
2. Raise your hand to speak.
3. Respect others.
4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
5. No running in the halls.
Daily behavior will be marked in each child's planner. Your child will receive colored dots corresponding to the dots on our discipline chart. Please initial the planner each day. This helps me to know that you have seen the conduct grade your child receives each day.
Stamp--Great day and their clip stayed on green all day.
Yellow dot--warning
Red dot--5 minutes recess time out
Black dot--10 minutes recess time out and parent note if necessary.
It is very important that your child brings their planner and blue folder to school each day. These two items enable me to have daily communication with you. Learning to be responsible is an essential trait that I will emphasize on a daily basis. If your child repeatedly fails to bring their planner and folder to school, their color will change for the day and their quarterly conduct grade will be affected.
Rewards
The students will receive special treats, special privileges, and positive notes for good behavior. Tickets are given for good behavior. Each student has the opportunity to spend their tickets at our school store on Fridays. A marble jar is used to reward good class behavior. When the jar is filled, the class receives a special treat.
Snacks
The students are allowed to bring healthy, nutritional snacks to eat during morning recess. Please do not allow your child to bring sugary snacks, such as cookies, candy, or donuts. Crackers, fruit, yogurt, nuts, and popcorn are examples of healthier snacks. Our lunch time is 12:00-12:30. A morning snack is recommended.
Birthdays
Students may bring cupcakes or cookies to school to celebrate their birthday. The special treat will be served during lunch.
Homework
Your child will be given Spelling and Reading homework throughout the year. Occasionally, Math homework will also be given. Your child will be given an opportunity to work on their Spelling homework at the end of the day. It is important for your child to read each night for 15 minutes. This is important to our Reading program and will improve fluency. In their blue take home folder, a calendar will be kept. Please initial each night when your child has completed their reading. This will signify to me that your child has completed their nightly reading assignment. If the calendar is not signed, your child will have to read for a portion of their recess. Your child will never be given homework or be expected to read over the weekend.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at (903)893-2127, or email me at [email protected]. My conference time each day is 9:05-9:50. I look forward to an exciting year working with you and your child!!!
